PRESS RELEASE:
Artist Michael Leyden has spent his fair share of time at home—home plate that is. It’s Leyden’s love for baseball that is the inspiration for his show "Baseball Season" at Park Slope’s Crooked Tail Cafe. Opening April 3 to coincide with Major League Baseball’s Opening Day, Leyden’s selection of work uses colored pencils for his vibrant, multi-hued drawings of the greatest sport on earth. His images of players like Yogi Berra and Mickey Mantle, along with the unforgettable Mister Softee and Crackerjack's Sailor Jack all conjure memories of nostalgia for the game.

A Brooklyn resident, Leyden first began drawing while attending art classes with his son at the Sheepshead Bay Library. He discovered an unknown talent and soon began tackling a variety of subjects. During his nights tending bar, Leyden would share his work with his customers. Soon enough, people were commissioning drawings and portraits and a new career path was realized. Leyden also tried abstract painting with much success. Recently, a selection of large-scale pieces was on display at the Virgin Records Megastore in Union Square.
